ACollab - accessible, open source, multi-group, Web-based collaborative work environment

http://www.atutor.ca/acollab/index.php

If you weren't already impressed enough with Atutor, the accessible, open source LMS from U of Toronto's Adaptive Technology Resource Centre, along comes the second piece in their ever-growing suite of accessible learning technologies. With shared document authoring, calendering, chat, threaded discussion and extensive group support, ACollab is WCAG 1.0, Section 508 US-compliant software that can be easily integrated with Atutor to provide a powerful open source learning environment. Caution: use of this product may actually enable learning amongst an entire class of people who are otherwise discriminated against by badly designed, inaccessible technologies. - SWL

Canada and Copyright Good summary of the recent history, current state and likely future of file sharing under Canadian copyright law. Things are good now in this country, but likely to go downhill fast if pledges to reform copyright law are acted upon. I wish there was a way to actually influence this legislation. But I've been in and around the political process long enough to know that there isn't. By Michael Ingram, Slyck News, June 16, 2004 [Refer][Research][Reflect]

One more thing to take a look at when I have some more time...

Personalized News? Findory News Has Them Robin Good points us to this resource, Findory, that cretaes a personalized online newspaper, providing a short description and link to a Findory page containing news reports about Findory (nice). "Findory uses a patent-pending method to order news articles gathered from a wide variety of sources. The algorithm combines statistical analysis of the article text and of users who viewed the articles with information about articles you previously viewed." It should be obvious, but I'll say it anyway: this sort of content distribution mechanism is a natural for education, and is exactly why I have spent so much time working on learning object repositories and related syndication systems.
